Learning in the new millennium
Representatives from more than 20 European ministries of education and officials from the European Commission and other European institutions will be on hand to discuss how information and communications technologies (ICT) can be brought to schools in order to improve the quality of education.
Co-hosted by IBM, which will present its new technology, the conference will include a series of plenary sessions and workshops. The conference's website will offer webcasts of the proceedings.
Discussions are expected to reflect the priorities of the eEurope report, recently launched by Commission President Romano Prodi, and should also be viewed as contributing towards the preparation of the new Action Plan, Designing Tomorrow's Education.
Commissioner for Education and Culture Viviane Reding has been invited to open the conference, and Commissioner Erkki Liikanen, responsible for Enterprise and the Information Society, has been asked to close the event.
