The internationalisation of vocational education will be the focus of a conference taking place on 25 to 27 May, 2000 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

In the presence of Mr Sergio Corti, Head of Unit of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture (which is supporting the event), the conference will hear about the internationalisation of qualifications and workshops will also be available to analyse issues such as how internationalisation can be carried forward.

The rationale behind the conference is to tackle internationalisation, which the organisers portray as 'the process of integrating an international and intercultural dimension into the teaching, research, curriculum development and service functions of the individual institution for training and education.'

The new information and communication technologies that are becoming so prevalent have made for rapid globalisation and internationally active people are fundamental resources in this environment. The conference aims to clarify how these skills can be developed and applied.
