The results of an EU-funded project which has examined ways of linking computerised applications used in the road freight transport industry using common software interfaces, will be presented at a conference to be held on 25 May in Bunnik, the Netherlands.

The INTACT (Integrated Telematics for Advanced Communication in Freight Transport) project has been running for two years and can now present its results to those running freight transport businesses and providing the sector's IT systems in Europe.

The conference will be held in association with the 'IT in Road Transport' symposium.

Project leaders will present the INTACT conceptual model, which helps with the integration of telematic applications in road freight transport.

Participants will also have the opportunity to see the results from the four demonstration sites that have integrated some of their applications, such as warehousing, fuel-interface, websites with real time tracking and tracing information, trip planning integrated with central administrative planning and on-board computers.

Software providers will also be on hand demonstrating their telematic applications at an IT exhibition.

Event organisers believe the topic of systems integration is becoming increasingly important, and will therefore highlight other European Commission-funded projects that are also working in the area of freight and fleet management and systems architecture. A workshop devoted to the technical issues surrounding freight and fleet management and systems architecture will also include presentations from EU-funded projects COMETA, ARTEMIS, FLEETMAP and KAREN.
