TeleRegions Network Conference

The TeleRegions Network (TRN), a European regional initiative to promote the use of telematics and information society technologies in regions, is organising a conference on the theme of 'Information Society Technologies and Advanced Networks for Regional Development', in Venice, Italy, on 12 to 13 October 2000.
The objective of the conference is to disseminate good practices identified within the European Commission's IST programme, and to debate the regulatory, technological and cost-benefit aspects of regional telecommunications networks in an increasingly liberalised environment.
High level speakers from industry, national governments and the Commission have confirmed their participation.
The two-day conference will consist of two plenary sessions and seven parallel sessions, covering electronic commerce, healthcare, education and training. During the plenary sessions there will be presentations and demonstrations of how telematics is helping regional development, giving examples of successful projects and possibilities for the future.
Conference participants will be decision-makers at regional level from both public and private organisations, as well as representatives from EU institutions.
The TeleRegions Network is a non-profit organisation, created in 1996 by a group of European regions. It aims to stimulate the take-up of information society technologies and services in order to accelerate the development of the new economy at a regional level..
