During its presidency of the European Union, Sweden will host a high-level scientific meeting in Sigtuna, Sweden, on 'Biodiversity of water and forest - science in support of the ecosystem approach' from 10 to 12 June.

'The relationships between aquatic and terrestrial organisms in the water-forest margins are both complex and vital for the biodiversity of these ecosystems. If we are to understand how to manage these and other such ecological interfaces, we must know the answer to many important scientific questions,' say the conference organisers.

Participants will hear key note speeches on the 'ecosystem approach', delivered by scientists with international standing and reports from ad hoc working groups on the biology of forest-water interactions, and on management of the forest-water ecosystem.
