International conference to examine small hydropower
The event is being organised by the European small hydropower association, the Société hydrotechnique de France and the Groupement des producteurs autonomes d'energie hydroélectrique with support from the European Commission.
The event aims to examine obstacles to the development of small hydropower, such as environmental constraints and high installation costs, and to build cooperation on scientific and strategic levels. It will provide solutions on how to reach the Kyoto Protocol commitments in the field of small hydropower and address the challenges and opportunities for this sector for the future.
An EU White Paper on 'Energy for the future: renewable sources of energy' foresees an additional installed capacity of 4,500 megawatts for small hydropower by the year 2010.For further information, please contact:
