EUROPARTENARIAT Scotland will take place at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow on 13-14 December 1993.

Established in 1988, the aim of EUROPARTENARIAT is to stimulate the development of least-favoured regions by organizing meetings between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and potential partners throughout Europe, encouraging cooperation agreements and joint ventures in the commercial, financial or technological fields.

Steps towards each EUROPARTENARIAT event include the selection of SMEs in the chosen region, the publication of a catalogue of these SMEs listing their special interests and their particular abilities and aims, followed by the pre-arrangement of business meetings, with specialist support including the presence of interpreters when required.

The catalogue of SMEs participating in the Glasgow event is now available. This 240-page publication lists 335 Scottish companies interested in meeting their counterparts from other European Member States and elsewhere. Each company is described in an information sheet together with its proposals for cooperation in the business, technical or financial field. The catalogue is available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

This information has been widely distributed, via the Euro Info centres (220 Centres throughout the Member States, plus Correspondence Centres now in operation in EFTA countries and in Eastern and Central Europe), the network of BC-NET experts, the Business Cooperation Centre (BCC), Enterprise and Innovation Centres, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and professional organizations. The special advisers responsible for its circulation aim in particular to find suitable partners and coordinate their participation in EUROPARTENARIAT Scotland.

EUROPARTENARIAT events are arousing increasing interest. At the Lille "EUROPARTENARIAT France Nord-Est" of 17-18 June 1993, over 11,000 individual meetings took place between the representatives of participating SMEs. Close to 50% of the visiting firms came from countries outside the Community, with a view to establishing business and cooperation agreements with French SMEs.

The Commission of the European Communities (the Directorate-General for Regional Policy and the Directorate-General for Enterprise policy) carries two thirds of the costs of EUOPARTENARIAT events organized in the Member States. The other third is paid by the host region. No fees are charged to visiting companies.

Further EUROPARTENARIAT events in 1994 are planned to take place in Gdasnk, Poland and in Bilbao, Spain.
