The Malta Council for Science and Technology is organising a workshop on information society technologies (IST) and proposal writing in Malta on 23 and 24 January 2003.

The conference is intended to explain the Commission's proposals for new mechanisms of research support that came into effect towards the end of 2002. Integrated projects and networks of excellence are two new instruments through which the Commission will channel research funding. During these two days participants will explore how these funding mechanisms will operate in practice.

As well as these new support mechanisms, speakers will describe the more traditional forms of Commission support for research and how these will change in the Sixth Framework Programme. Practical help will also be given for those who wish to join research consortia or find partners for their own proposal.

The Malta Council for Science and Technology is the national advisory body to Government on science and technology policy. The MCST is responsible for identifying and addressing major science and technology challenges and issues of strategic importance for Malta, thereby contributing to the development of coherent and sustainable policy visions and initiatives.

The conference is intended for research managers and administrators who already have some knowledge of EU research programmes. It will consist of lectures, practical exercises and feedback sessions and discussion. For further information, please contact:
