Cenertec, the Centro de Energia e Tecnologia, has organised a short course on industrial furnace technology, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 28 and 29 June.

The course is particularly concerned with improving the energy and environmental performance of fuel-fired high-temperature furnaces. Consequently, the course will provide a greater understanding of the principles and practices associated with the efficient design and operation of this type of plant.

Lectures will cover fundamental and practical aspects of combustion processes and heat transfer, which underpin the performance of high temperature furnaces. Recent increases in fuel prices, coupled to growing concerns over the links between carbon emissions and global climate change, have strengthened the need for energy conservation. Efficient furnace operation is therefore a major feature of the course. Minimising pollutants (particularly NOx) from combustion processes will also be covered. Furnace design and control is still often based on tradition and experience, despite recent developments in the theoretical and experimental techniques of furnace performance. Consequently, furnace modelling will be a further major theme. For more information, please visit:
