3 June 2009 - 3 June 2009
Ireland
The EU-funded CRYPTONET ('Cryptosporidiosis network Ireland: development of skills and knowledge to predict cryptosporidiosis risk in catchment water') project will hold a three-part workshop on the contamination of surface water by cryptosporidium spp. in Dublin, Ireland, from 3 to 5 June.

A one-day practical workshop will focus on molecular techniques and risk assessment regarding contamination by cryptosporidium from agricultural sources.

A two-day workshop, dedicated to molecular techniques, will cover DNA extraction from complex environmental matrices and the detection of cryptosporidium spp. using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) techniques.

The workshop programme will be complemented by a one-day symposium bringing together methodologies in molecular identification of cryptosporidium spp. and microbial risk assessment on 3 June.

Cryptosporidiosis is a parasitic disease that affects the intestines of mammals. Infection is through contaminated material such as earth, water, uncooked or cross-contaminated food. For further information, please visit:
