Symposium on hazardous near-Earth asteroids, Valetta, Malta
This year is the Year of Astronomy, and among the challenges discussed at conferences and seminars are asteroids that threaten the Earth. Among the topics to be focused on at this symposium are:
- evaluation of the level of danger of celestial objects and their potential collision with the Earth;
- instruments and methods for detecting hazardous asteroids and determination of their motion, use of different approaches presently available and planned for development;
- possible use of contemporary tools to determine and predict motion parameters of asteroids;
- existing ground facilities and required characteristics for solving the problem of hazardous asteroids;
- methods and instruments for asteroid motion control in order to prevent their collision with the Earth.
The symposium is organised by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Russian Cultural and Scientific Center on Malta, the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the Institute of Astronomy and the Institute of Applied Mathematics of RAS, with the support and participation of the European Space Agency (ESA).For further information, please visit:
