'International Conference on the Utilization of Wetland Plants: Reed as a Renewable Resource', Greifswald, Germany
Wetlands are one of the world's most important environmental assets, containing a disproportionately high number of plant and animal species compared to other areas of the world. Wetlands exist in every country and in every climatic zone, from polar regions to the tropics, and cover an area that is 33% larger than the USA. Due to their capacity to shift energy fluxes in favour of latent heat, they have been used and experimented as an alternative energy source in Northern Europe.
The use of wetland biomass is being considered all over Europe. The production of reed canary grass, for instance, has increased rapidly in the last decade in Finland and Sweden and Estonia. Easy to produce, it is also cost efficient and sustainable, but not without its own issues.
The event will bring together stakeholders from research, governance and other actors who deal with the utilization of reed to network, analyse research demand and share experience and information.For further information, please visit:
