The second European AMI (Application of Metrics in Industry) User Group Meeting will take place, in London, on 1 December 1995, in association with EuroSTAR'95 and the Third European International Conference on Software Testing, Analysis and Review.

The AMI project was sponsored by the European Commission through the ESPRIT programme, to promote the use of measurement in software development. The first European AMI User Group Meeting was held in Basel, Switzerland, in October 1994 and attracted some fifty delegates from fifteen countries.

This year's event promises to be as international as the last, providing a similar opportunity for AMI users from all over Europe and beyond to hear about and exchange experiences. The meeting will act as a forum in which users will be able to give feedback on the AMI development work which has been taking place during 1995. The meeting is open to everyone, including both members and non-members of the AMI User Group.

The event will cover the following topics:

- Software process improvement and measurement experiences at Nokia Corporation;
- Metrics definition in the FASGEP project;
- Identifying business goals and implementing metrics as part of a software process improvement initiative at Compagnie des Signaux;
- A workable environment for metrics;
- An improvement plan based on AMI and triggered by a SPICE assessment;

A panel discussion will focus on the main changes to the AMI method following user feedback and the AMI User Group Method Update workshop hosted by the Commission of the European Communities, in Brussels, in April 1995. A short presentation of the rationale for enhancement will be given before the floor is opened to discussion with participants. In addressing socio-cultural issues associated with implementing measurement and software process improvement in various parts of Europe and beyond, the panel will also reflect the international flavour of the User Group meeting.
