INTERWORKING'96, the third international symposium on interworking, will take place in Nara, Japan, on 1-3 October 1996. The symposium is being hosted this year by the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE). It is being supported by the European Commission (DG XIII) within the framework of its specific RTD programme in the area of advanced communications technologies and services (ACTS), part of which aims at extending the provision of interworking and interoperation between high-speed heterogeneous infrastructures.

This year's symposium will highlight the importance of high-speed networking and operability in the heterogeneous international networking environment. It will include tutorial presentations on interworking and interoperability efforts in both Europe and Japan.

The symposium aims to provide a platform for exchanging views on heterogeneous communications network issues, including its concepts, evolution, services, equipment and user requirements. It will highlight the importance of interoperability between equipment, protocols, signalling and network management for the provision of end-to-end services at an international level.
