A workshop on "The Information Society in the Euro-Mediterranean context" will be held in Sophia-Antipolis, France, on 1-2 April 1996.

The workshop, which is being organized by the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM), under the aegis of the European Commission (DG XIII), will examine the regional factors affecting the development of the Information Society, in particular in the Mediterranean region. In addition to demonstrations of pilot projects, discussions will take place on the following topics:

- Political context and regional cooperation;
- Networking and protocols;
- Databases and multilinguality;
- Development of national networks.

The workshop is being held with a view to preparing a submission to the Ministerial forum on the Information Society, organized by the Italian Presidency of the European Union, which will take place in Rome, Italy, on 30 May 1996.
