The Fourth "Ten Nobels for the future" conference on science, economics and ethics for the coming century will be held in Milan, Italy, on 5-7 December 1996. In addition to the annual conference in December, two additional meetings will be held, on 6 June and 3 October.

The conference will address the problems created by development in the areas of employment and the environment. The conference speakers will include a number of Nobel laureates, and participants from Milan and Italy, who will address the problems from a local angle. In addition the conference programmes provisionally include speeches from European Commission officials and Commissioner Emma Bonino.

The additional meetings will discuss the relationship between energy, the environment and development, in June, and the prospects for large-scale infrastructure, in October.
