The 1997 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry will take place in Ghent, Belgium, on 12-17 January 1997. It is organized by the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Ghent.

The conference will feature developments in plasma spectrochemical analysis by inductively coupled plasma (ICP), DC plasma (DCP), microwave induced plasma (MIP) and glow discharge (GD) sources coupled to atomic emission or mass spectrometers. It will also discuss current trends and future directions in novel sample introduction systems, plasma system automation and software for data handling.

The event will comprise oral and poster presentations, short courses and a five-day exhibition of spectroscopic instrumentation and accessories.

A Commission representative from the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of standards, measurement and testing (SMT) will give a plenary lecture at the conference.
