The DASIA'97 (Data Systems in Aerospace) conference will take place in Seville, Spain, from 26-29 May 1997. This international software and system engineering conference is being organized by EUROSPACE, in coordination with the Centre Nationale d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the European Space Agency, EUROCONTROL and the European Commission.

The DASIA'97 conference will maintain the traditional focus on a wide range of computer-based applications and technologies, both software and hardware, for space applications both on-board and on-ground. It will, however, be more open to other types of applications in which high-quality computer-based technologies are used, such as communications, transportation, manufacturing and energy.

The aim of the conference is to present and discuss examples of software engineering applications, innovative technologies (components, systems, methods and tools) as well as training and management experience. Special attention will be given to the following topics:

- Advance in communications;
- Use of off-the-shelf products, including shareware and other products available;
- Evolution of the programming languages, with ADA'95, the enhancements to C++ and the role of Java.
