The third International Workshop on Telework will be held in Turku, Finland, from 1 to 4 September 1998. This workshop is jointly sponsored by the European Commission, DG XIII, under the Advanced Communications Technologies and Services (ACTS) programme and the Finnish Ministry of Labour, and is organized by the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration.

The workshop will include an in-depth discussion of key contemporary issues in teleworking and other forms of virtual work. The event will concentrate in particular on four main aspects of telework:

- The decision-making environment - assessing costs and benefits of teleworking and integrating them into business plans;
- The workplace environment - building workplaces that embrace virtual working possibilities and providing stimulating and productive work interaction, including social and emotional support;
- The management environment - controlling, coordinating and integrating work processes that include remote workers, colleagues and business partners;
- The societal environment - the consequences of teleworking for society, transport and ecology.

Papers for the workshop are welcomed, especially in the following areas:

- Creating a telework workplace;
- Cost/benefit analysis of telework;
- Management over distance;
- Social acceptance of a teleworker at home, working organization and neighbourhood;
- Managing informal organization and information as a teleworker;
- Implications of telework for society.
