The European Commission's INFO2000 programme aims to stimulate the European multimedia content market in four areas, including economic exploitation of Europe's cultural heritage, business services for firms in particular for SMEs, geographic information, and scientific, technical and medical information. This INFO2000 CD-ROM has been produced in order to facilitate access to the wide range of information available on the programme and its projects. Information contained is divided into separate sections which deal with the following: - INFO2000: comprising all relevant documents including fact sheets, work programmes, projects and contact persons; - ECHO: the European Commission's non-commercial host server, which demonstrates the benefits of using electronic information services in business, by offering free of charge access to more than ten on-line databases; - MIDAS-NET: the initiative established to create new markets by stimulating the creation of high quality multimedia content, through a network of local organizations; - Market monitoring and related studies; - The Open Interchange Information Initiative; - The Multilingual Information Society programme (MLIS); - IMPACT II: the Information Market Policy Actions programme, which created a solid basis on which to build the INFO2000 programme; - Other EU initiatives of relevance to the programme, such as the European Initiative in Electronic Commerce; - All relevant information on the upcoming Fifth RTD Framework Programme.
