The European Commission, DG XI (Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection), has cancelled the invitation to tender for contracts for the performance of services in relation to the Nitrates Directive. The Nitrates Directive (91/676/EC) provides a legal regime to lessen risks of pollution in the European Union from substances containing nitrates. In July last year, DG XI published an invitation to tender for a framework contract to provide services for this Nitrates Directive. However, the EC has now decided to withdraw the invitation concerning research and experimental development services as well as engineering services. The initial invitation was published in the Official Journal on 10 July 1998 (No S 131, p.52.).
