TMR support for research visits to UK Natural History Museum
The UK's Natural History Museum is currently inviting proposals from European researchers wishing to undertake short-term (up to three months) research visits to the Museum. The EU's Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme has made funds available to support travelling costs and living expenses of visiting researchers. The Natural History Museum and its associated partners combine the preserved and living collections of four institutes, an internationally respected skills base, and top-class analytical facilities, representing Europe's leading centre for biodiversity-related systematics research. The Museum's extensive global collection of historical records enables researchers to address international biodiversity issues, from monitoring biological, chemical and environmental changes (including climate change) through to issues relating to every aspect of taxonomy, evolutionary biology and ecology. This facilitates both innovative 'blue-skies' research and practical applications to outstanding biological problems. The analytical facilities enable non-destructive high-resolution visual analysis of irreplaceable specimens and sensitive chemical analysis utilising minute quantities of material. The molecular biology facilities enable phylogenetic analysis of both newly-collected material and those in the collections. Scientific studies in the Museum are arranged into the following research themes: - Biomedical sciences; - Environmental quality; - Earth materials, history and processes; - Ecological patterns and processes; - Faunas and floras; - Systematics and evolution.
