EUMETSAT, Europe's weather satellite organisation, has recently released a CD-ROM directory of meteorological satellite applications. The CD-ROM is mainly intended as a training and educational resource, but also provides a useful source of reference material about the various applications of meteorological satellites. The CD-ROM includes some of the most vivid images derived from space observation from the global network of weather satellites, say its producers, the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS). It has full colour illustrations including tropical storms, ocean-borne algae, global temperatures and cloud cover, ozone distribution, 'before and after' shots of flooded regions, vegetation mapping, and marine winds as well as many other topics. An on-line version of the CD-ROM is available from the EUMETSAT website at: http://www.eumetsat.de/ (select 'publications' then 'CGMS Directory of Meteorological satellite applications').
