The European Commission's Environment Directorate-General has recently published a series of brochures on-line giving an insight into the EU's focus on clean air, green jobs, clean water and waste management. EU policy on environmental protection and protection of natural resources has steadily grown in importance since the 1980s, says the Commission. This is because threats of environmental damage and depletion of natural resources are still far from being under control, it continues. The brochures describe the ranges of legislative measures aimed at ensuring sustainable management of these key areas in Europe. They are intended to inform local and regional players, non-governmental organisations, policy makers at all levels, social partners and consumers and EU citizens of the Commission's activities in these areas. The publications also aim to be thought-provoking to readers, offering them alternatives to help them change their current habits to help the environment.
