Owing to 'technical problems with the entry form', admission to the Stockholm Challenge has been extended to 19 March 2000. The Challenge, formerly known as the Bangemann Challenge after EU Commissioner Martin Bangemann, is an open competition for innovations in the use of technology. It is a non-profit initiative of the City of Stockholm in partnership with the European Commission, which supports the award through the Global Cities Dialogue, a framework for cities to work together to realise the potential of the Information Society. Award organisers say the challenge 'offers IT pioneers from around the world the opportunity to showcase projects of excellence, which can be private, public, academic or non-profit.' Commissioner for Enterprise and the Information Society Erkki Liikanen said: 'The Challenge provides a concrete platform to bring projects together for sharing of knowledge and experience on a global level.'
