The European Commission is calling for tenders to identify and quantify sources and proposals for measures of priority substances under the proposed water framework directive. The priority substances will be subject to emissions controls in the future. 'Emissions, discharges and losses of the priority substances to the aquatic environment are related to a wide range of processes and uses resulting in many different diffuse and point sources,' says the Commission. 'The identification of all relevant sources will be the basis for the proposal for specific measures to control the emissions.' In addition, the cost effectiveness of the measures must be evaluated.
