The European Commission, DG XII, has published a catalogue of contracts carried out during 1992-1994 for the Biotechnology programme. The aim of the Biotechnology programme during this period was to reinforce the access to, and use of, biological knowledge as the rate-limiting step for biotechnological applications in agriculture, industry, health care and the environment. Research activities for the Biotechnology programme, which had a budget of ECU 189 million during 1992-1994, were implemented via four different modalities: - Basic research projects; - Generic research projects; - Projects of technological priority; - Concerted actions. The catalogue groups the projects under areas, topics and subtopics corresponding to the organization of the Biotechnology work programme. The project areas are as follows: - Molecular approaches; - Cellular and organism approaches; - Ecology and population biology; - Horizontal activities common to all areas. Within each subtopic, projects are grouped according to the implementation modalities. In addition, for each of the projects, the catalogue provides contract details, a summary of the objectives, as well as a brief work description. The catalogue also contains an index of participants, contract numbers and keywords.
