The Commission invites proposals for investigation and trial of security devices which can be applied over the planned pan-European R&D data communications network infrastructure. Main R&D network initiatives supported by the Community in the framework of the ESPRIT and VALUE programmes are: the X.25 backbone IXI at 64 kbit/s; the OSI-based Y-NET service; the EUREKA project COSINE; national projects in OSI-based networking; RARE (the European Research Networking Association).
