The European Commission, DG XII, has published a general information brochure on the Community's specific programme for the training and mobility of researchers (TMR), part of the Fourth Framework Programme for research and technological development. The aim of the TMR programme is to develop, both qualitatively and quantitatively, human resources in Europe in order to provide the Community with top-level scientific and technical personnel. The programme, which disposes of a budget of ECU 744 million over four years, is open to virtually all scientific disciplines (from the exact and natural sciences to economics and the social and human sciences). Activities are aimed particularly at young researchers (under 35 years of age). Funding is awarded for the following: - Research training networks: to promote training through research in high quality transnational research projects; - Access to large scale facilities: in order to Europeanize large national research facilities; - Research training grants: to encourage young researchers to undertake part of their research training abroad; - Euroconferences, summer schools and practical training courses: to advance scientific dialogue and the training of young European researchers. In addition to general information on the programme, the brochure also provides details of calls for proposals planned during 1996-1997 period.
