A book entitled "Here and now - Contemporary science and technology in museums and science centres" has recently been published by the London Science Museum (UK), with the support of the European Commission (DG XII). In presenting contemporary science and technology, science museums and science centres face their greatest challenge. In this book, international expertise is marshalled for the first time to try to answer questions that are central to the thinking of every museum and science centre wishing to cover contemporary science and technology: - How can they best take advantage of opportunities for collaborations with each other, with the media and with leading research institutions? - What are the implications of the information technology revolution? - How can objects be more effectively displayed? - What are the key issues involved in developing exhibitions and events that address contemporary material? The book examines these and other issues from a wide variety of perspectives. Prepared by leading members of some of the world's foremost science museums and science centres, by historians, media experts, scientists and representatives of funding bodies, this collection of essays offers a host of insights into the challenges involved in presenting contemporary science and technology.
