The European Commission, DG XII, has published the results of research projects carried out within the Clean coal technology programme, under the JOULE II programme, between 1992 and 1995. The clean coal technology programme was divided into two fields: - Powder coal combustion project; - Combined cycle project. These two projects concentrated on assessing the technical and economic feasibility of carbon dioxide separation from the flue gases of coal fired power plants, for subsequent dumping in relation to the alternative approach of increasing cycle efficiencies to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced. A total of 14 projects are described in the report - seven in each field. The published report is in three volumes: An executive summary, and two volumes containing the final reports of the individual projects in each field.
