The European Commission has selected 12 projects for financial aid under the trans-European telecommunications networks following the call for proposals launched in March 1997 (OJ No C 84 of 15.3.1997 p. 12). The current set of projects are based on the Euro-ISDN guidelines, since the Decision on the full telecoms network was only adopted in June 1997. The twelve commercial validation projects involve a total of 92 partners in 12 Member States, and will receive Community funding amounting to ECU 9.2 million in total. The projects selected are as follows: - TEN-TELEMED: Set-up of a commercial service, linking European centres of excellence in various domains of medicine, providing services to hospitals, GPs, insurance companies and private individuals; - TELE-REMEDY: Development of trans-European telematics healthcare services for remote diagnosis, management and education concerning congenital heart disease; - MELIC: Integration of several Telematics Applications projects to provide multimedia information services on healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, self-care and healthcare services and devices for European citizens; - TELEPOLIS: Enabling content providers (mainly SMEs) to generate revenues by creating an independent billing and clearing service; - TEN-ICO-SAT-NET: Focuses on delivery of multimedia, ISDN and Internet services to mobile users, using the ICO satellite delivery system; - EURO-JOINT: Provides customized information for different target audiences on welding and materials technologies via an Internet platform; - NABUCCO: Aims to promote the use of electronic commerce by SMEs in their daily business to facilitate relations with public authorities, trade associations, customers and suppliers, giving them a competitive edge; - LOGICIP: An Internet business centre for European SMEs with a focus on manufacturing subcontractors, containing information on invitations to tender, companies and with automatic matching facilities; - HMS: Pre-feasibility study on the use of new information technologies to provide enhanced postal services, by sending documents electronically and printing them close to the recipient for delivery; - IBUT: Pre-feasibility study on using Euro-ISDN to distribute data for broadcast on-line TV, using unused capacity in TV channels; - NITOURA: Pre-feasibility study of regional information networks for rural and less-developed regions, especially in the domains of public health, education, technology diffusion and awareness, services to SMEs, services to administrations and socio-cultural activities; - AGR.EL.MA: Pre-feasibility study of a Europe-wide databank network based on Internet, linking agricultural producers and livestock breeders with traders and the processing industry.
