A joint call for proposals for RTD actions in the field of aeronautics has been launched by the European Commission under the specific programmes for RTD in the field of industrial and materials technologies (BRITE/EURAM) and in the field of Information Technologies (ESPRIT). The activities subject to this call must aim to develop: - With reference to Information Technologies: . Experimentation of information technologies processes and tools to support distributed concurrent engineering for aeronautical applications. In particular (but not exclusively) tasks contributing to these aims are found in the following domains: . Software technologies (tasks 1.4 1.14 1.26 and 1.35); . High Performance Computing and Networking (tasks 6.3 6.18 and 6.20); . Technologies for Business Processes (tasks 7.12 7.13 and 7.17); . Integration in Manufacturing (tasks 8.1 8.3 8.7 8.8 8.21 8.22 and 8.23); - With reference to Industrial and Materials Technologies: . Experimentation of distributed concurrent engineering and processes aimed at reducing aircraft development and fabrication costs. In particular (but not exclusively) tasks contributing to these aims are found in the following areas: . Aircraft design and systems integration (tasks 3.A.1.1 up to 3.A.1.9); . Aircraft production (tasks 3.A.2.4 and 3.A.2.5). Tasks other than those listed above could be addressed if the relevance of the RTD activities to the objectives of the call is justified. It should be noted that research activities may cover both programmes and that proposals for coordinating research actions are encouraged. Research and technological development work will be, in general terms, the subject of shared-cost actions, in accordance with the rules for implementation defined in Annex III of the Council Decisions adopting the specific programmes referred to above. Priority will be given to proposals of high relevance for the aeronautical industry, with involvement of manufacturers, end-users and suppliers, including SMEs and research organizations. The special information package concerning the procedures for submitting proposals to this call, background material, and a copy of the model contract which will be drawn up with the candidates selected, are available on request from the Commission services. Proposers may check with the services of the Commission the conformity of their proposal with this call in advance of the deadline. Details are given in the special information package. Both the BRITE/EURAM and ESPRIT programmes are open to organizations from European third countries. Community financial support can be made available in order to facilitate participation of organizations from the Central and Eastern European countries, and from the former Soviet Union. Details of third country participation possibilities are contained in the special information package "Concurrent Engineering in Aeronautics: Guide for Proposers".
