Objective
The Chinese information technology market is, worldwide, the one that presents the greatest prospects in the short, medium and long term. It is therefore essential that European organisations quickly develop scientific and technical cooperation projects with Chinese organisations in order to be able to take advantage of the expected dynamism of the Chinese markets.
It is also necessary that the cooperation efforts of European organisations are supported by actions to facilitate their emergence, accompany their development and strengthen their impact. Over the period 2005-2008, the CHINACOOP Project will provide such support, in continuity with the support actions that the IST Programme has been developing European organisations for almost 5 years. These were in particular expressed through the organisation of the "EuroChina2002" event in April 2002 in Beijing and the setting up of the "EU-China Working Group on Digital Olympics".
More precisely, the CHINACOOP Project will:
- continue providing DG Infso with operational support in organising periodic meetings with the Chinese authorities, in particular with the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, MOST.
- prepare and organise an IST exhibition in Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games to showcase European know-how in the field of Digital Olympics and ICT in general.
- maintain the information and support services for European organisations offered by the www.EuroChina-IT.org portal dedicated to cooperation between the European Union and China in the ICT field.
CHINACOOP is expected to have a major impact on the quality of the political cooperation framework between the EU and China in the ICT field, on the intensity of S&T cooperation activities between the EU and China, and on the image of European organisations and of the IST Programme in China.
