Project description Information Society issues (such as management and protection of digital assets, and inclusive access to the information society) Show the project objective Hide the project objective ICT embedded in a rapidly expanding set of devices, of all scales and potential uses and facilitated by state of the art communication protocols (broadband, 3G, etc.) is reshaping contemporary life and unleashing an amazing, even to comprehend, potential. Though the rapid proliferation of ICT is also having impressive impacts on modern life, this has not really resulted to the same level of change in the everyday life of the EU citizens. The term digital divide is more and more used to describe the many situations where the uptake of ICT strongly diverges among classes of the population. Though the main connotation of this term is the divide between rich and poor it is also true that significant differences exists also for the exclusion high-risk communities. Though the broad social benefits are obvious to all, they are not felt by all at the same level. The target communities of this project, namely inmigrants (including internal migration), disabled, unemployed and ageing, have yet to be fully reached by the welcome effects of these, very often barrier removing, technologies. However both the size of the communities, the existing technology opportunities as well as the quest for social cohesion renders it important to drastically improve the uptake of modern ICT within these particular communities.ICT for ALL seeks to set a measuring framework of the interaction of these community with ICT and in particular with the more revolutionary elements of the term, i.e. broadband Internet, 3G, digital TV and ambient intelligence. A framework that will comprise indicators describing in fine detail the current uptake (monitoring indicators) of ICT of all these communities, in a relative manner, against the respective uptake in the rest of the society.
