My personal adaptive Global NET and beyond

Objective

The MAGNET Beyond vision is to make the MAGNET concept a reality, that is Personal Networks (PNs) will support users? professional and private activities, without being obtrusive and while safeguarding their privacy and security. The MAGNET Beyond mission is to make MAGNET happen by enabling commercially viable PNs that are attractive, affordable and beneficial for end-users in their everyday life. The MAGNET Beyond project constitutes a system approach to what is expected to be one of the most important telecom related growth markets of the future, Personal Area Network (PAN) style networking.

The MAGNET Beyond project builds on the results of MAGNET and providing advances in PNs that include:
- Research-based, comprehensive, short-term and long-term solutions for the technologies and protocols needed to build Personal Networks that meet the user requirements, in particular in terms of the quality-, security- and trust requirements.
- Technology roadmaps for the evolution of Personal Networks.
- System specs for first generation Personal Networks.
- Effective platforms that optimally and cost-effectively meet the short- and long term communication requirements for personal devices.
- A pilot Personal Network system and pilot services.
- An assessment of the market potential of Personal Networks based on PN services usage, usability and acceptation tests.

MAGNET Beyond will introduce three Pilot Services, obtain real market and user feedback and help build the business of personal services over personal networks. MAGNET Beyond will strongly promote PNs and related technologies and provide input and recommendations to standardization and regulatory bodies and fora. Through success in the MAGNET project, Europe can leverage its leadership in wireless towards new business opportunities.
