Objective
PIM aims at promoting Process Innovation within East-European SMEs through the development and validation of an ICT-based system to support innovation managers in implementing really innovative solutions in local enterprises in order to increase their organisational performance and improve their competitiveness within the enlarged market.
The PIM idea springs from the successful results achieved by the DIGI-Q IST project (2001-38157) aiming at realising ad hoc courses for SMEs' internal personnel and postgraduate students or freelance workers willing to act as managers and specialised technicians in e-business and quality certification procedures.
PIM will use the DIGI-Q experience and extend the diffusion of process innovation contents in East-European countries. Process Innovations that PIM intends to promote are related to all the contents (information, best practice, tools, experiences, etc.) helpful in supporting e-business and quality procedures in SMEs. So, PIM will allow to design and develop completely a new customized ICT tool to support SMEs in dealing with process innovation in the digital era, helping PIMs already trained in DIGI-Q (150 people) and those that will be trained in the PIM demonstration activity, in providing more powerful actions to help East-European SMEs gain competitiveness through the use of information technology.
The development of an advanced technological infrastructure will provide PIMs with a highly innovative relational tool allowing them to act as enablers of wide process innovation diffusion among East-European SMEs in order to enhance the enlarged Europe's performance worldwide.
Thanks to the involvement of relevant Certification Bodies belonging to the International Certification Network, PIM will involve a large number of SMEs and Managers (at least 120, 20 within each Pilot site) within the Demonstration Activities that will test the PIM platform in implementing the envisaged Project Works (at least 80 in the project).
