Objective
The objective of SEVENPRO is to develop technologies and tools supporting deep mining of product engineering knowledge from multimedia repositories and semantically enhanced 3D interaction with that knowledge in integrated engineering environments. CAD designs, documental repositories and ERP/corporate DataBases will be the main data and knowledge sources supported. SEVENPRO will bring together the so far distinct worlds of 3D design data and other representation formats of engineering knowledge.
The project will thus improve the process of product engineering and development in manufacturing and engineering companies, by means of semantically (ontology-based) supported acquisition, formalisation and management of product knowledge. Process improvements will be measured by criteria such as the time required for a product innovation, the level of company reuse of existing knowledge, and the reduction of engineering costs.
Specially targeted to engineering companies and manufacturers with own RTD and complex products, the project aims to develop technology and software components to be integrated in product engineering environments. SEVENPRO will cope with the most important problems this kind of companies have to face, such as: disperse and heterogeneous knowledge repositories (technical documentation, CAD designs, etc.); knowledge sharing among team members; increasing product complexity and customisation; long product cycles; and transfer of new product knowledge from RTD to other departments and to the market.
Scientific and Technological objectives of the resulting SEVENPRO are oriented towards solving concrete industrial challenges for product engineering teams and focus mainly on the following: semi-automatic semantic annotation of Multimedia design resources (CAD, ERP, Documents); automatically extracting design patterns from engineering repositories (mainly CAD files); enabling semantically enhanced VR interaction with product knowledge.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
