European security forum for web services, software and systems

Objective

ESFORS is a Coordination Action that aims at bringing together the European stakeholders for security and dependability information and communication technologies to address the security and dependability requirements of emerging software service platforms. This emergence of open service platforms such as web services provides major opportunities to position the European software industry at the heart of the emerging information society. The project is positioned to support the emergence of a software and services platform architecture ensuring the incorporation of security and dependability best practise. The project will complement already existing coordination actions, e.g. SecurIST, to establish the Security and dependability chapter of the European Strategic Research Agenda. ESFORS will act as a bridge between these two communities:
the software and services application community and the security and dependability community. Therefore, the following activities are identified;
-Setting up of an expert group on secure web services;
-Basic foundation studies on security and dependability;
-Identification of security and trust consolidated elements for FP7 needs;
-Support the integration of the security and dependability research agenda into the platform through the SecurIST taskforce participation;
-Co-ordination of identified initiatives->identifying overlaps and gaps and bringing consensus on how to address the reinforcement of security within software and services;
-Consolidation of findings for contributing to define the security chapter of the European Research Agenda;-Raising awareness through conference. The key outcomes from the project are:
The establishment of a Pan European Industry and Academic forum addressing security and dependability issues for software, services and systems;
The development of a Strategic Security Research agenda in support of Framework 7;
The specification of an agreed (by European stakeholders) Industry framework for security.
