European matchmaking platform for innovative transport and mobility tools and services

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - ENTRANCE (European matchmaking platform for innovative transport and mobility tools and services)

Reporting period: 2022-07-01 to 2023-12-31

ENTRANCE offers a common and legitimate European matchmaking platform, "ARRIVAL" (https://www.arrival-platform.eu/(opens in new window)) and complementary off-line services that are designed to mobilise financial resources to accelerate the market access and scale up of “first of a kind” sustainable transport solutions, thereby reducing the European CO2 emissions and pollutants caused by the transport and mobility sector.
The overall concept lies in the “supply-demand-finance” triangle for all transport and mobility modes, referring to the “solutions providers-buyers-investors”. First-of-a-kind zero, or near-to-zero, emission transport solutions are identified and matched with potential buyers, financing opportunities, and knowledge on good practices on the deployment of innovative solutions as well as European and national tenders, and legislation is exchanged through the online platform.
Training and brokerage activities are offered, and in addition, to de-risk the uptake of innovative solutions, ENTRANCE has set up a neutral trustee for the orchestration of purchase aggregations. Access to finance is supported through an online funding programme database and individual and personalised innovation finance advice that combines public funding, private investment opportunities, and the best mix of alternative finance models for potential uptake scenarios.
Finally, ENTRANCE has liaised with numerous EU associations and initiatives to support critical mass and achieve a coordinated effort to boost the uptake and upscaling of innovative transport solutions.
The launch of the ENTRANCE EU Matchmaking platform as the cornerstone of the cooperation between the “supply-demand-finance triangle” has been one of the project's main results. This platform was rebranded to ARRIVAL, after collaboration with the RECIPROCITY project (GA number N°101006576). An in-depth and user-centric analysis of all the features and functionalities of the platform was performed. Based on these results, a detailed list of both projects and user requirements was developed and translated into system specifications in terms of functional and data requirements, including the logical data models on which the platform is finally based.
In addition, a desk methodology was executed to develop a detailed map of stakeholders under the three main categories involved in the platform: supply, demand and finance, and a detailed analysis of national and European funding programmes was carried out. A specific taxonomy was defined covering all areas of innovation and transport modes supported by ENTRANCE project. Best practices and legislation for the sector were also identified and published.
ENTRANCE project had put much effort into reaching out to specific supply and demand stakeholders for the ENTRANCE Open Competition and Open Calls, providing individual and personalised innovation finance services to solution providers and potential buyers of innovative sustainable transport and mobility solutions. ENTRANCE organised many training and brokerage events, including webinars combining information about i) EIB funding mechanisms for providers of sustainable transport & mobility solutions to boost EU uptake; ii) ENTRANCE EU Matchmaking Platform - webinar how to use the platform?; iii) EIC Accelerator: The funding for the Innovation Champions in Transport, Logistics & Mobility; and iv) Introduction on how to calculate GHG reduction from sustainable transport innovation; as well as webinars on proven alternative financing options for solution providers and buyers of first-of-a-kind sustainable transport solutions and specific workshops focusing on countries and regions initiatives supporting zero-emission road freight and logistics.
ENTRANCE project has carried out a helpful market analysis of innovative solutions for the transport and mobility sector which are available on the ARRIVAL platform, including i) Medium- and Heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles for long-distance and urban logistics (freight transportation); ii) Zero-emissions vehicles for waste management in urban areas; iii) Urban Delivery Road Vehicles; iv) Innovative solutions for seamless interconnections and Collaborative solutions for logistics and passenger mobility; v) ITS Solution Provider for City Logistics; vi) Cycling Solutions; vii) Urban Air Mobility: Innovative and sustainable solutions; and (viii) Decarbonising Maritime Sector: Alternative Fuels-related Solutions.
Moreover, a manual for purchase aggregations has been created and is available on the platform. It is a guide through the process of setting up a joint purchase explaining the support services that ENTRANCE offers.
Contacts with the leading EU associations and initiatives in the transport & mobility sector have been established, including the HEU Partnerships, to attract stakeholders to the ENTRANCE community. Also, a ‘Task Force On Accelerating Innovation Uptake For Sustainable Transport’ was launched, involving eight European projects.
Dissemination actions on the ARRIVAL platform functionalities and services have been enhanced by distributing the ENTRANCE newsletter, several social media publications and presentations given at conferences.
ENTRANCE has created the European reference Matchmaking Platform “ARRIVAL” (https://www.arrival-platform.eu/(opens in new window)) for boosting the uptake and scale-up of innovative and near-to-zero emission transport and mobility solutions by providing visibility to, matching, and further supporting stakeholders from the “supply-demand-finance” triangle, thereby accelerating the uptake of innovative solutions for the challenges that the transport sector faces to reduce its CO2 emissions. In doing so, the consortium promoted solutions that contribute to the ambitious goals envisaged by the European Commission for reducing transport CO2 emissions by 2030 and 2050 and responding to the increasing mobility needs of people and goods, thereby strengthening European competitiveness.
The ENTRANCE results have exceeded the expected impacts set out in the topic (MG-3-8-2020) and contributed also to the Smart, green and integrated transport Work Programme in general (Global leadership and competitiveness) by:
• Maintaining and extending the European industrial leadership worldwide, promoting the penetration of the latest developments in new materials, innovative processes, advanced automation, and digital technologies into all transport sectors.
• Contributing to new transport business models that are changing the way innovation is applied.
• Increasing competitiveness through cooperation frameworks.
• Contributing to the development of advanced technological capabilities in transport, exploiting both evolutionary and disruptive technologies, which will result in strengthened global leadership and environmental protection.
