Reuse Reduce Recycle AI-based platform for automated and scalable Maker culture in Circular economy

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - RRREMAKER (Reuse Reduce Recycle AI-based platform for automated and scalable Maker culture in Circular economy)

Período documentado: 2021-01-01 hasta 2022-12-31

The RISE program called RRREMAKER aims to develop an AI-based maker platform that designs and produces handcrafted, rapidly prototyped, and reconditioned products using used goods and recyclable waste from various sources. This program will establish a hybrid management model based on communities of knowledge, ecodesign, and democratization of invention, integrating orange, sharing, and circular economies. The proposed platform will integrate cutting-edge algorithms of generative design, machine learning classifiers, algorithms for big data, cloud computing, and experimental data to predict structures, forms, materials, colors, ornaments, etc., based on traditional artisan and innovative design parameters and recycling materials. During the digital design process, the platform will direct the prototyping process based on the disciplines of handcrafted production, providing automatic design solutions according to the function of the object, affecting the structure -shape prediction, recommendations, self-construction- and materials. The platform will connect and interface with other web platforms, leading to potential market opportunities in the field of creative and culture industry and green economy. The ultimate goal is to apply AI and machine learning to improve the principles and action in the circular economy within the design, craft, rapid prototyping, and smart manufacturing sectors, promoting the protection and development of the natural environment, also favoring the “3R – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” principle.
The RRREMAKER project has completed the first two years, with work packages WP1, WP2, WP3, WP4, and WP6 ongoing. The project has submitted seven deliverables, three milestones have been achieved, and the scientific objectives of the first two years have been met. However, delays have been encountered in completing some deliverables, including D8 and D9, due to Missing Tech Sagl's departure from the consortium. The Covid-19 pandemic has also caused some delays in scientific activities and actualization of secondments during the first 18 months of the project. The RRREMAKER project has achieved a deep understanding of how to structure the AI platform, separating and integrating the Orange/maker culture (OMC) and the Green and Circular Economy (GCE) modules. The project has also involved new partners to bring experience in different classes of objects and handcraft in South America, and WP5 will start in 2023. The project has two management work packages, WP1 and WP6, which have been ongoing since the beginning of the project, with WP1 managing the entire project and WP6 focused on dissemination and communication.

RRREMAKER is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The RRREMAKER project, aligned with the "Societal Challenges" of the Horizon 2020 framework, aims to promote environmental management, circular economy, and saving of raw materials through an AI-driven Maker platform. The project involves knowledge exchange among various sectors, building a European reservoir of expertise in related fields, and enhancing the relationship between Europe and South America. The importance of proper economic resource management is the project's main goal, with the involvement of the creative industry in recovering used goods and waste. The RRREMAKER software can reduce waste by facilitating the reuse of used goods, support the circular economy, empower individuals and businesses to adopt sustainable practices, and promote innovation and creativity. By extending the life of products, reusing materials and components from used goods, and inspiring new and creative designs, the software can help create a more sustainable and environmentally responsible society in the current period of history where limiting waste is more important than ever.
