Thought Exhibition: The significance of Bruno Latour's art exhibition concept for his work and as a model for art institutions

Project description

Arts’ capacity to address social and ecological issues

During four exhibitions at the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, the French philosopher Bruno Latour, known for his work in the field of science and technology studies, and Austrian post-conceptual artist Peter Weibel developed the concept of ‘thought exhibition’ (TE). This is a curatorial method based on the aesthetic and participatory capacity of the arts to address critical issues such as climate change. The EU-funded THOUGHT EXHIBITION project investigates the TE concept to obtain new insights into Latour’s work. The project will demonstrate the significance of TEs for this work and provide a conceptual framework for the role of the arts in facilitating engaging narratives on ecologically and socially critical issues.
