Project description
Enhancing postdoc fellowships programme at the University of Cyprus
Coordinated and co-funded by the University of Cyprus (UCY), the ONISILOS project will transform the current postdoctoral fellowships programme of UCY into an international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary funding scheme for experienced researchers. The grant, through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND, will allow UCY to launch 50 postdoctoral fellowships. ONISILOS will create the conditions through which international and intersectoral mobility of researchers will be secured and offer innovative training through research and transferrable skills training to the fellows. By attracting the future generation of top researchers in Cyprus, it will also create opportunities to develop an entrepreneurial culture within the country’s research community.
Objective
The proposed ONISILOS project is coordinated by the University of Cyprus (UCY) and is of 60 months duration. UCY has committed to offer €3.678.000 in a period of five years starting from 2021 to support excellent Experienced Researchers (ERs) to carry out 50 (25 x 2 rounds) research projects of 24 months duration each in one (out of six) interdisciplinary focus research areas. It will comprise 2 calls for proposals starting from month 6 of the project. The mobility requirements as well as the evaluation criteria and process are almost identical to the corresponding MSCA-IF ones with a fully independent peer-review evaluation process and emphasis on Excellence and the Impact for the careers of the involved ERs as well as UCY, Cyprus and the EU. Within these fellowships, Career Restart and Reintegration Fellowships applications will be welcome. Intersectoral secondments and interdisciplinary approaches are highly encouraged and will be facilitated through the partners and the excellent network of supporting organizations. It is envisioned that ONISILOS will:
• transform the current post-doc fellowships programme of UCY into an international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary
funding scheme for ERs,
• enhance high quality research at UCY and more broadly in Cyprus,
• create the conditions through which international and intersectoral mobility of researchers will be secured,
• offer both innovative training through research and transferrable skills training to the fellows involved,
• attract the future generation of top researchers in Cyprus by offering a very attractive remuneration package,
• combine science with industry experience to develop an entrepreneurial culture within the research community.
