Galician Night of Researchers

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - G-NIGHT (Galician Night of Researchers)

Période du rapport: 2021-05-01 au 2021-11-30

The aim of the project was to continue working towards raising awareness of research and research careers, the role of science and technology in our society and the promotion of scientific vocations among young people through this project. All of these objectives are shared goals and integral part of the philosophy of each and every one of the consortium partners and for the very first time we wanted to carry out a project all together.
G-NIGHT sought to bring its research institutions to the whole population, to continue working and caring for a relationship that is strengthened every day. And all partners wanted to do it in a festive atmosphere and on informal settings, and so it was done: events on public squares, streets, pubs, libraries, museums… all kind of locations for the biggest science festival. It was an opportunity to break stereotypes, clear misconceptions, open the dialogue and have a big day of celebration
The project was focused mainly in the Activities during the European Researcher Night (24 of september) and, also, in the Awareness Campaign and the Impact Evaluation. The main results are the following:

- 62 activities during the night
- 6149 attendees from all Galicia’s cities
-447 staff members of the Organization were mobilized
-91.4% of the attendees and 90.3% of the collaborators indicate that the event has contributed to a greater appreciation of the work carried out by scientists. In addition, 84.5% of the public and 87.3% of the collaborators indicated that G-Night encouraged scientific vocation among young people
The public in attendance awarded the event 9.21 (on a scale from 0 to 10) for general satisfaction. Likewise, 76.6% of the attendees and 85% of the collaborators consider that an event such as G-Night is of fundamental importance when it comes to promoting science among citizens. All this confirms that the work carried out by the organizers, promotors and collaborators has been a success and encourages us to maintain our efforts in the coming years.
91.4% of the attendees and 90.3% of the collaborators indicate that the event has contributed to a greater appreciation of the work carried out by scientists. In addition, 84.5% of the public and 87.3% of the collaborators indicated that G-Night encouraged scientific vocation among young people. These data show that the purpose has been fulfilled, proving once again that G-Night has succeeded in increasing interest in science and raising awareness of the importance of investment in R&D&I.
