Periodic Reporting for period 2 - RethinkAction (CRoss-sEcToral planning decisIoN-maKing platform to foster climate Action)
Reporting period: 2023-04-01 to 2024-09-30
1. Creation and engagement of the End-users Community.
2. High-resolution climate data and land use maps. Climate change impacts and risks in each case study.
3. Land use-based Adaptation and Mitigation Solutions cataloged at local, EU and global scales.
4. Multiscale evaluation framework: 1) Future scenarios consistent across scales 2) Local dynamic models for the integrated assessment of solutions 3) An upscaling function for solutions at EU & global scales (WILIAM IAM).
5. Land-based policy recommendations at different scales (local, EU & international policies).
6. Develop the RethinkAction integrated assessment platform and demonstrate it in six representative case studies.
7. An exploitation strategy as well as an open promotion of the projects’ results.
WP3: T3.2 T3.3 and T3.4 completed in M24 (D3.2 D3.3 and D3.4 submitted in M24). T3.5 completed at M31 with the submission of D3.5. Downscaled climate datasets (ECVs and derived indicators) have been obtained at case study level as well as EU datasets for both rage of variables. High-resolution (10m) land-use maps at case study level were developed and completed with an analysis of the historical land use patterns by means of land-use matrix implementation. The GIS database was implemented and integrated in the platform with all the geolocated datasets obtained in WP3.
WP4: T4.3 & T4.4 completed (D4.3 D4.4 D4.5 and D4.6). LAMS synergies & trade-offs evaluated and included in the catalogue, A set of KPIs for LAMS evaluation have been developed and integrated in the modelling framework. The LAMS catalogue have been developed and integrated in the platform as a user-friendly visualization tool.
WP5: T5.2 have been developed the metodology for the evaluation of climate change impacts and the evaluation of adaptation and mitigation land-based solutions (D5.2). In addition, the local modelling framework was developed as the basis for local models implementation (D5.3). This was completed with the methodology for the upscaling of measures from local to WILIAM model (D5.5) being the basis for understaning how the changes at local impact at higher scales. Improvements in WILIAM to model the LAMS included in the catalogue are reported in D5.4. The initial framework for policy recommendations was developed in T5.5.
WP6: T6.1 developed risk analysis for each case study based on the IPCC framework including the quantification of hazards, exposure, sensitivy and adaptive capacity of each priority sector. The basis for this quantification was the impact chains co-designed with the EUC. In T6.2 suitability maps for the evaluation of adaptation and mitigation capacities have been developed as well as methods for the integration of the capacities in the local models. Packages of solutions were developed in co-creation processes with the EUC (T6.3 and D6.3) while the local models continue their development process (T6.4)
WP7: The first release of the platform was launched with the following functionalities: i) LAMS catalogue as an interactive tool; (ii) ECVs assessment al case study level and Global/EU scale including maps and timeseries under three different climate scenarios (SSP126, SSP245, SSP585); (iii) Hazards, exposure, vulnerability and risk at case study level using three different climate scenarios (SSP126, SSP245, SSP585) by means of heat maps; (iv) Check and review of impact chains; (v) Adaptation and mitigation capacities. The platform is available in this URL: https://tools.cartif.es/rethinkaction/#/inicio(opens in new window). Deliverables D7.2 (platform databases) and D7.5 (first release of the platform) were submitted.
WP8: Review on data collection tools from an exploitation perspective as well as the IPR management and the exploitation roadmap to finalise KERs characterization (T8.1). A workshop on Busines Model Canvas development was developed (T8.2). Setting up the replication strategy defining the roles and the main responsabilities of each partner (T8.3). Project presentations to engage replicators and meeting to align replication and capacity building activities (T8.4).
WP9: Updated C&D strategy (D9.2) at M24 including a list of relevant events, publications & relevant projects and initiatives. Website update, social media posts (418 posts), updated C&D tracking list, updated event data base, blogposts (11 blog articles), internal meetings to improve C&D activities, news articles on project meetings, 21 video interviews, 2nd and 3rd Newsletter. Project presentation at events: COP28, EURESFO24 , URBIS24, European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA), EUROGEO, IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS 2024) or "Swedish Climate Symposium, 2024 - Climate research: Climate, society, responses“.
Rethinkaction has been working to develop a common modelling frameworks consistent between scales whose progress beyond the state of the art. The link of each WP that contributes to the establishing the basis towards ambitions and impacts is shown:
