Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

FantastiCOF aims at developing a disruptive methodology to prepare highly crystalline exotic materials, which will exceed the current challenges and limitations of existing materials and methods. Achieving this would represent an important step forward in the fabrication of the next generation of superconducting electronic devices with enhanced performance and sensitivity.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

We have developed a series of monomers for the synthesis of novel covalent organic frameworks in bulk and in surfaces.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

We have successfully developed and optimised the synthetic routes of a series of complex monomers that have proven quite successful in the synthesis of covalent organic frameworks. We have unexpectedly found that cage monomers are able to solubilise fullerenes in organic media. Furthermore, we have discovered how the effect to steric interactions will give rise to covalent organic frameworks with unexpected topologies.
