In continuation of previous work, the SJOS indicator framework was further developed in response to external review feedback, with stronger integration of social sciences and humanities (SSH). Two stakeholder retreats (June 2024 and September 2025) played a central role in refining indicators, thresholds, and baseline projections. Targeted SSH consultations and thematic seminars—particularly on animal welfare—addressed identified gaps. A major scientific output was a peer-reviewed journal article proposing a normative, policy-anchored approach to selecting SJOS indicators for EU agriculture. A key technical outcome is the BrightSpace Database and Monitoring System (BSDMS), hosted on IIASA’s GitHub infrastructure, which provides structured access to indicators, documentation, data, and publications. Work on environmental drivers of the SJOS shifted from literature review to empirical analysis, with results to be reported in the next period. The literature review on policy influences on SJOS outcomes was published in Q-Open, while empirical ex-post analyses of agri-environment schemes, organic farming, LFA payments, and food safety standards are ongoing. Baseline development progressed from an initial fast-track version to a more challenge-oriented baseline, supported by harmonised reporting templates, improved model alignment, and IIASA’s Accelerator framework. Models were enhanced to better represent both the safe operating space (biodiversity, nutrients, pesticides, air pollution) and the just operating space (food and nutrition security, employment, wages, and income distribution). Further work on social equity will continue in the next reporting period. Promising emerging technologies were identified, institutional and regulatory frameworks analysed, consumer preferences assessed, and model parametrisations prepared. An integrated scenario framework was developed to assess climate, biodiversity, health, and trade policy pathways and to analyse synergies and trade-offs across EU agri-food systems. Exploratory transition narratives for EU agriculture to 2050 were co-designed with stakeholders and will guide future model implementation. The BrightSpace Stakeholder Platform was expanded, major stakeholder events were organised, and extensive capacity-building activities implemented.
