The report will consider different ecological and biological levels, from single species to communities up to ecosystems and their correlation (e.g., focusing on species traits and interactions, functional groups, ecological processes, and connectivity aspects). Among others, it will provide a ranking of different areas according to their effectiveness in achieving biodiversity protection and restoration goals (e.g., functioning as ecological corridors, valuable habitats such as fish spawning and recruitment areas). It is developed in Task 3.1.
Site specific gaps and opportunities to support knowledge-based MSP (opens in new window)Site-specific gaps and opportunities to support knowledge-based MSP will take a form of a report developed in task 5.1. It will highlight shortcomings and opportunities for better integration of biodiversity considerations in MSP as well as other relevant processes (e.g., SEA, sectoral planning) at the test site level. Key information from the test site will be presented including the current status of MSP and MPAs/conservation measures included in the planning, user needs, and current gaps with regard to the current management practices and environmental targets.
Trade-offs method for protection and restoration in MSP - ESE4 (opens in new window)The trade-offs method for protection and restoration in MSP - ESE4 is developed in Task 4.3 and takes the form of a report. It provides a set of methodological guidelines for the participatory-based trade-off scenarios to weigh the impacts of the multi-objective spatial and strategic management measures i.e. uses’ impact on ecosystem services.
State of the art overview of the current protection and restoration measures in place (opens in new window)State of the art overview of the current protection and restoration measures in place for the management of MPA’s and OECMs. The deliverable will provide a state-of-the-art overview of the main categories of restoration measures currently applied in marine ecosystems throughout the EU, considering both transnational and national level measures. It is developed in Task 2.3.
Strategy for Addressing the Ethics and Intellectual Property Rights (opens in new window)Strategy for Addressing the Ethics and Intellectual Property Rights in the Project (M1, with updates in M12 and M24). The report will clarify the roles and procedures for addressing the ethics and intellectual property in the project. It will ensure consistent application of legal and ethical frameworks (based on EC Ethics Appraisal Procedure), and assist the full partnership in the appropriate implementation of activities and the monitoring of ethics aspects incl. the ‘do no significant harm’ principle and Intellectual Property (IP) rights protection. The deliverable is developed in the context of Task 1.2.
State of the art on key barriers and levers for policy coherence (opens in new window)State of the art on key barriers and levers for policy coherence will take a form of a report developed in task 6.1. It will identify barriers and levers of coherent implementation of an overarching policy objective (biodiversity protection) within the existing environmental and sectoral policies that may have contradicting objectives. It will highlight the potential and limitations of the integrative policy frameworks.
Ecological toolkit (ESE 1) for MPAs prioritization and networking (opens in new window)Ecological toolkit (ESE 1) for MPAs prioritization and networking is developed in Task 3.3. The elements of the toolkit are: (i) advanced approaches, (ii) prioritization criteria and (iii) DSTs, all categorized by their applicability in terms of A) Purpose: MPAs establishment, enlargement, ecosystem restoration, and improvement of connectivity of MPAs including through the establishment of blue-green corridors; B) Type of protected areas: fully strict vs non-fully strict; and C) Location: coastal area vs continental shelf vs deep sea. With reference to climate change adaptation, the toolkit will include specific references to Nature-Based Solutions (e.g., protecting climate refugia, shifted feeding habitats). An inventory of tips for decision-makers will summarize the key elements of the toolkit, including the level of maturity, operability, uncertainty, suitability for use in MSP, as well as resources needed for their application such as expertise and data. It will facilitate the identification of main ecological characteristics, summarize the environmental effects of local and/or transboundary sources of pressures with underlying uncertainties, and evaluate the effectiveness of possible management measures and blue growth scenarios.
Initial Data Management Plan (opens in new window)Initial Data Management Plan will take the form of a report. It will outline clear data management responsibilities in the Consortia. The plan includes the definition of the data and publication policy and the GDPR. It is a living document - it will be regularly updated throughout the project. It is developed in the context of Task 1.2.
Guidance for building climate change scenarios for protection strategies (opens in new window)Guidance for building climate change scenarios for protection strategies will take a form of a report. It will propose approaches to combine climate change monitoring at single MPA and MPAs network scales through Earth Observation (EO) systems to support scenario analysis at multiple temporal and spatial scales. It is developed in the context of Task 3.2
Plan for Exploitation and Dissemination of Results (opens in new window)Plan for Exploitation and Dissemination of Results will be developed in several stages of the project to ensure continuous dissemination of project results during and after the project's end. It will provide a clear framework associating relevant tools, methods, and means of dissemination of exploitation with the key user and interest groups. The responsibilities for dissemination and exploitation will be specified as well as the monitoring procedures and KPIs. It is developed as a report in Task 7.4.
Overview of the available biodiversity datasets and platforms relevant for planning (opens in new window)Overview of the available biodiversity datasets and platforms relevant for planning. The deliverable will be developed in the form of a report. It will provide an overview of available biodiversity data and services relevant for planning on different geographical levels and highlight relevant gaps and opportunities for each of the sea basins, thus setting the scene for data collection in specific test sites. The deliverable is developed in the context of Task 2.1.
Criteria for the representation of the social and economic dimension of MPAs (opens in new window)Criteria for the representation of the social and economic dimension of MPAs will be developed in task 4.1 and will take a form of a report. It will provide clear criteria for prioritizing the proposal of new areas; new limits; reallocation of areas; network corridors, etc. It will identify Ecosystem Services (ES) that can cover the social dimension of identification and management of MPAs, including as part of the MSP processes and revenue-and non-revenue-generating ES, pinpointing those that bring most societal value, in terms of establishment of MPAs, without discarding the less representative ones (in terms of social impact).
Knowledge Transfer Plan (opens in new window)Knowledge Transfer Plan will take a form of a report developed in Task 7.2. It will specify the knowledge transfer products including curriculums, courses, as well as professional training – upskilling and reskilling of planners and MPA managers. It will outline the key responsibilities, tools, actions, KPIs and milestones for the knowledge transfer in the MSP4BIO project and beyond.
Portfolio of improved ecological criteria to be applied in systemic biodiversity protection and restoration (opens in new window)Portfolio of improved ecological criteria for MPAs and EBSAs identification and improvement of MPAs network (e.g. enlargement and networking) to effectively catalyse actions for systematic biodiversity protection and effective restoration, and to support nature-based solutions. The criteria will address the main environmental and biodiversity features of 6 MSP4BIO test sites. It will take the form of a concise report. The deliverable is developed in the context of Task 3.1.
Summary report of the existing ecological and environmental criteria (opens in new window)Summary report of the existing ecological and environmental criteria. The deliverable in the form of a report will give an overview and categorization of environmental criteria for each of the European sea basins. It is developed in the context of Task 2.2.
Communication Strategy (opens in new window)Communication Strategy will outline the strategy for the external communication of the MSP4BIO project. It will provide clear lines of responsibilities, communication messages, KPIs, and monitoring procedures. target groups and associated tools and channels of communication will be clearly specified. The deliverable takes a form of a report and is developed in Task 7.1.
