Deliverables

Experts Internal Database + updates (opens in new window)

We will create an Experts Internal Database: this database, in the form of a spreadsheet, will be early prepared for each partner to fill in with suggested experts and their affiliations. The Steering Group will then compile a long list of possible experts to be invited to join the independent EU knowledge and expertise on Contemporary China network. The full list of those who accepted – including some contact details info such as areas of expertise, affiliation(s), email addresses and links to the most recent works - will appear in a specific section of DWARC website. GDPR application will be ensured: data will be collected and handled under pre-agreed rules and protocols, according to the best practice of the field.

"1 permanently free online database, ""Chinese party-state politics""" (opens in new window)

We will produce a permanently free online database (“Chinese party-state politics”), intended for the policy community, researchers, and the general public of the EU, on the website of the DWARC project and partner institutions that catalogues the sources used in WP3. The database will also contain all research outputs of WP3, supplemented with brief annotations and a glossary. The database will be continuously updated.

China's Economy Data (CED) repository, available for public use M12-M36, continuous updating: complete final update by M36 (opens in new window)

We will collect, process and analyse different types of data on China’s economy. This data will then flow into a one-stop, reliable data repository and indicators platform, the China’s Economy Data (CED) repository. It will include: (a) Data on private versus state ownership of companies and their financial health. (b) Measurement of subsidies received by Chinese companies and other forms of industrial policy support. (c) Data on China’s export share across different sectors, with particular attention to those included in Made in China 2025, such as electric vehicles, semiconductors, etc. (d) Data on China’s participation in GVCs across sectors and geographies. (e) China’s Mergers and Acquisitions activity in the rest of the world with particular attention to Europe. (f) China’s overseas lending with particular attention to the EU’s neighbourhood and Africa. (g) Sentiment indicators on key issues for the Chinese economy and its global impact drawn from big data analysis (GDELT). (h) Market access indicators across different sectors of the Chinese economy.
