Dissecting FOXO-mediated Transcription Noise to Stall Cellular Dysfunction in Ageing

Communication, Dissemination & Outreach Plan (s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)

Results will be communicated to the scientific community in three different formats: open-access scientific publications on international peer-reviewed journals (at minimum two, expected three); seminars for researchers and students at UCIBIO (national level) and international conferences via poster sessions or (if possible) oral presentations (at minimum one, expected 2). We recognize the importance of Open Science and facilitated flow of knowledge and information and appropriate dissemination measures will be undertaken in this direction, as annual publications in Open Access journals and presentations in specialized conferences and meetings (Biomedical, Ageing and Computational Biology topics). Journal abstracts and presentations will be uploaded to social networks such as Linkedin and ResearchGate. To promote knowledge and formation in detecting transcription noise from RNA-seq data, the host group will present an application to organize an EMBO-Practical Course in this topic, similar to the one awarded by our group in 2020. Communication to the general public will be achieved through different means namely, websites, press releases, talks for lay audience, open days and social media - LinkedIn, Research Gate, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. For this, the host group will rely on the communication department of UCIBIO, which is responsible for disseminating relevant discoveries and breakthroughs, prizes, and achievements of UCIBIO research. Moreover, UCIBIO has developed exceptional work promoting a two-way interaction between researchers and a wide range of audiences, including schools and media. Several types of activities have been regularly enrolled, namely workshops and hands-on activities for younger generations, meetings involving scientists and different publics and media training activities for scientists.

Over the next two years the researcher aims to consolidate a strong background and expertise in computational biology approaches designed to tackle problems with a strong impact in public health and clinical research These are not only pervasive skills in research but also relevant to a variety of sectors outside academia especially given the vast accumulation of biological information over the last two decades Accordingly a major strength of this proposal is the use of exhaustive interdisciplinary approaches combining bioinformatics methods and multiomics data eg genome transcriptome and epigenome with gene expression manipulation applied in mammalian cells and mice In parallel the researcher will supervise young researchers one MSc student per year and lecturing undergrad students the MSc in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at FCTNOVA enhancing his prospects of a tenuretrack position at the University He will also manage the collaboration between the host lab and Dr Michael Potente which will allow him to have a pivotal role in the scientific communication between the groups and participate in the decisionmaking and experimental plan of the collaboration Moreover the researcher will present and discuss his most recent work in internal seminars at the host institution at least once a year attend at least 2 international conferences on which Marie Curie funding will be referenced and acknowledged These aforementioned activities will allow the researcher to improve his leadership and communication skills and contribute to establish him as an independent researcher able to analyze complex biological big data and find novel associations between multiomics data pinpoint relevant biomarkers of disease and physiology

As researchers of fundamental science we truly believe that we should make research more open to participation and improvement Therefore we will implement a complete set of open science policies that will enclose reproducible research and science tools following the FAIR principles Findable Accessible Interoperable and Reusable All highthroughput sequencing data produced in the lab of Michael Potente will be submitted and shared through consensual large repositories such as Gene Expression Omnibus httpswwwncbinlmnihgovgeo or Short Sequence Read Archive httpswwwncbinlmnihgovsra Here processed data in standard format files will be provided to facilitate the reuse of the data This will be backed by complete and detailed information about sample and library preparation sequencing details and bioinformatics analyses We will provide extensive technical details and share experimental protocols used for genetic manipulations in all our outputs manuscripts thesis etc Moreover our computational approaches will be mostly based on opensource programming languages eg Python R and Bash scripts and will be shared with the community through our publications and open science platforms eg Github Zenodo Here we will enforce the reproducibility of the analyses building frameworks with Docker Images The host lab has been applying such procedures in other bioinformatics pipelines available in GitHub httpsgithubcomcomicsfct and as Docker Images httpshubdockercomuargrosso Our findings will be published following an Open Access philosophy meaning that they will be accessible online free of charge by any user with no technical obstacles Potential MSc dissertations in the framework of this project will be shared using the proper resources of our universities
